CEC will no longer pay average salary to candidates during election campaign

The Central Election Committee (CEC) will no longer be obliged to pay the average wage to the candidates during the election campaign, according to the salary-related evidence documents presented by competitors. On Wednesday, March 14, the Cabinet approved a draft law regarding the amendment to Article 46 of the Electoral Code, according to which the candidates, during the election campaign, besides of the fact they enjoyed the right to step down temporarily from their positions, CEC paid them their average salary for this period from financial means allocated for the elections’ organisation. The need for amending the respective article was grounded on the high costs for the implementation of its provisions and lack of finances.
