CEC to rule on ballot question on Russian language in 15 days
The Central Election Commission (CEC) will examine the application to allow an initiative group to collect signatures in support of a referendum on giving Russian the status of second official language within 15 days, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from “Novaya Gagauzia” Movement.
A national forum was held in Comrat town on September 24, where the initiative was supported by over 700 delegates.
On September 29, representatives of the initiative group lodged an application with the CEC, asking registering the persons who will collect signatures in favor of the plebiscite. After registered, the 494 persons of the working group will be issued with permits allowing them to collect signatures all over Moldova, said “Novaya Gagauzia” Movement that is headed by Mayor of Comrat Nicolai Dudoglo.
At least 320,000 signatures must be collected for the referendum to take place.
