The Central Election Commission (CEC) proposes that each polling station established abroad should get by 10,000 ballots, up from the current 5,000 ballots. This is one of the recommendations incorporated by the CEC into its report on the presidential election results that was approved on November 23, IPN reports.

The proposal to amend the Election Code was formulated because the number of 5,000 ballots at an out-of country polling station was not enough owing to the high demand for ballots at those stations.

The CEC noted that another aspect that needs to be regulated is the express regulation of the submission of applications to vote at the place of stay. The legislation does not stipulate if the application should be filed again for the runoff in the case of older persons and persons with locomotor disabilities.

As regards the participation in elections by students, the CEC said that to standardize the legal framework on elections and referendums held in the national constituency, the students eligible to vote studying in a locality where they do not have the domicile or residence should be allowed to vote at any polling station established in that locality, without having to meet particular conditions, such as presenting the identity card with the accompanying loose leaf and the student permit and filling out an own responsibility statement on refraining from multiple voting.

Until the constitutional control over the localities of the Transnistrian region is restored, the Transnistrian voters put on the State Register of Voters will cast their ballots at any of the distinct polling stations.

The report is to be presented to the Constitutional Court together with the presidential runoff totaling report.

Under the electoral legislation, the Constitutional Court confirms the legality of the elections within ten days of the receipt of documents from the CEC, but not before the challenges filed to court in accordance with the legal procedures are definitively solved.
