At most 16.5 million lei can be transferred to the Electoral Fund for the November 19 local referendum on the dismissal of Dorin Chirtoaca from the post of mayor general of Chisinau municipality. The cap was approved by the Central Election Commission (CEC) in its October 10 meeting, IPN reports.

The referendum will be organized at a cost of 8.9 million lei. It will be held following the collection of over 80,000 signatures in favor of the referendum from inhabitants of Chisinau by an initiative group constituted by the Party of Socialists. The residents of the capital city who will take part in the plebiscite will have to answer only one question: “Are you for dismissing Mister Dorin Chirtoaca from the post of mayor general?”.

The first deputy chairman of the Liberal Party Dorin Chirtoaca has been suspended from post in connection with his investigation for corruption and influence peddling. He pleads not guilty.
