CEC rejects petition of “Moldova Noastra” Alliance

The Central Election Committee (CEC) rejected Tuesday, March 20, the petition of “Moldova Noastra” Alliance claiming violations of the Electoral Code in two TV-shows. CEC found that at the Pro TV channel’s show “In Profunzime”, in which Vice Speaker Iurie Rosca participated, and at the NIT channel’s show “Maxima”, whose guest was President Vladimir Voronin, contained no elements of electoral campaigning in favour of a certain political party. Upon thorough examination, CEC proposed to reject the petition, as being groundless. Two CEC members had a different opinion about the AMN’s petition. Nicolae Garbu stated that the two TV shows did contain elements of electoral campaigning and the legal provisions were violated. As he says, the Conduct Code started to be unobserved, a fact that will make the electorate to think that the elections will be rigged. He suggested that the electoral authority found the committed violations, as outlined in the AMN’s petition. Mihai Busuleac proposed to take notice of the AMN’s petition and undertake measures to avoid such violations later on. These proposals were supported by Dumitru Graur, AMN representative, who suggested to approve the petition and to find the legislation’s violation by the two 2 guests of the abovementioned TV shows. However, the majority of CEC members voted against petition. AMN insists that the petition be examined and the cases be analysed, as well as to undertake concrete measures to guarantee the fairness of the upcoming elections, before excluding the guilty parties from the electoral competition.
