The Central Election Commission (CEC) on January 26 registered three more competitors in the national consultative referendum of February 24, 2019. These are the Party “Democracy at Home”, the Professionals’ Movement “Speranța-Nadejda” and the Party “People’s Will”. In the same meeting, the CEC rejected again the application to register the Party “Our Home – Moldova” as a participant in the referendum, IPN reports.
The Party “Democracy at Home” and the Party “People’s Will” were registered with the option “Against”, while the Professionals’ Movement “Speranța-Nadejda” and the Party “People’s Will” with the option “For” for the first question and the option “Against” for the second question.
The CEC examined against the application of the Party “Our Home – Moldova” after rejecting it because the option “Boycott” mentioned by the party is not envisioned by the electoral norms and because the application was filed by a representative of the party that didn’t have the power to do so. The party changed its option into “Against” and submitted also a power of attorney, but the CEC doubted the authenticity of the document.
“The power of attorney dates from January 1, 2019. When the application was submitted on January 18, the power of attorney wasn’t presented. When examining the document, it was determined that this didn’t contain the holographic signature, only a stamp signature and the authenticity of the document was thus questioned,” stated the Commission’s secretary Veaceslav Agrigoroae.
“I clearly see the Democratic Party’s intention not to allow us to take part in the referendum. This is actually logical,” said the party’s first vice president Alexandr Roshko.
Earlier, the CEC registered two participants in the February 24 plebiscite - the Democratic Party with the option “For” and the Party of Communists with the option ”Against”.
In the referendum, the voters will answer with ‘yes’ or ‘no’ two questions: if they want the number of MPs to be reduced from 101 to 61, and if they want the MPs to be recalled if these do not fulfil their duties. Over 10 million lei was allocated for organizing and holding the plebiscite that will take place simultaneously with the parliamentary elections.
