CEC registers candidates of bloc ACUM

The Central Election Commission registered 54 candidates for MP proposed by the electoral bloc ACUM. Victor Spînu didn’t have an integrity certificate and was removed from the list, IPN reports.

CEC secretary Andrei Volentir said candidate Dumitru Pavel was nominated as the official representative of the bloc to the Central Election Commission, but this is against the Election Code. In the “political affiliation” section of Maria Ciobanu and Ion Terguță, it is written the Liberal Democratic Party, but this party does not form part of the bloc ACUM.

CEC member Iurie Ciocan made reference to a Constitutional Court judgement, saying the Liberal Democratic Party does not officially form part of the bloc ACUM and the political affiliation of the two candidates should be thus clarified. He suggested that this party should be coopted as a member of the bloc or the two candidates should renounce the membership of the PLDM.

PPPDA president Andrei Năstase said the bloc was created by the PAS and PPPDA and the two Lib-Dems do not represent the PLDM, but were put on the list as representatives of civil society.

CEC president Alina Russu proposed excluding the political affiliation of the two candidates. The proposal was supported by most of the members of the Central Election Commission.
