Central Electoral Commission (CEC) recommends that the local public administration provides in the budgets for 2007 funds necessary for the preparation and the organization of the general local elections in 2007. A decision of CEC published in the last issue of the “Official Monitor” newspaper includes this recommendation which is addressed to raional and municipal councils, People’s Assembly of UTA Gagauzia, as well as local councils. The decision has been communicated to the Ministry of Finance in order to inform it and provide the needed help in the creation of local budgets for the next year. The last general local elections took place on May 25, 2003. It is expected that the next ones will be held in the period from May to June, 2007. According to the amendments to the Electoral Code, voters in Chisinau will also have to elect both councils and mayors of the 5 districts of the capital.
