The electronic register of voters will be introduced all over Moldova for the first time in this autumn’s parliamentary elections, the president of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Iurie Ciocan said in an interview for RTR-Moldova TV channel, quoted by IPN.

“There will be by at least two computers with access to the electronic register of voters in every polling place. The members of the election commissions will be any time able to check it if they cannot find a voter in the electoral rolls or if the name of this voter is present on the lists of other constituencies. This, we will remove any suspicion as to the fixing of elections,” stated Iurie Ciocan.

He noted that no elections were rigged in the period during which he worked at the CEC (11 years). “There were probably cases of buying of voters with money or presents, but the elections weren’t fixed. Neither in April 2009 could they present evidence after making such accusations,” said the CEC president.

He also said that polling places for citizens from Transnistria will not be established on the left side of the Nistru. The Transnistrians will be able to cast their ballots at special polling stations in Chisinau and Balti. The electoral lists will include over 2.700 million voters, more than 200,000 of whom are from the Transnistrian region.

Iurie Ciocan added that on September 15 the Ministry of Justice will present the list of registered parties that will be able to take part in elections to the CEC. Afterward, the parties will register as participants in the elections by October 30. After a party registers with the CEC, it will have the status of election competitor and will benefit from a particular number of free appearances on the public TV channel. The financial resources invested by the parties in the election campaign will be strictly monitored.
