CEC postpones rerun elections in Corjova village located in Security Zone

The Central Election Commission (CEC) Tuesday suspended its earlier decision regarding the holding of rerun elections in Corjova village in Dubasari district on November 11 for an indefinite period. CEC made such a decision at the request of the Corjova authorities who said that the situation in the village remains unstable and it is rather probable that the Transnistrian forces will hinder again the elections. Corjova Mayor Valeriu Mitul, who attended the CEC meeting, said that after the elections held on June 3 and 17, the secessionist forces carry out different maneuvers in the settlement almost daily. They also deployed additional militia troops. CC member Nicolae Garbu said he is against postponing the elections in Corjova village and proposed holding the elections in the neighboring settlement Cocieri after studying the situation thoroughly. But the proposal was rejected by his colleagues and by representatives of Corjova administration, who said that the road connecting the two settlements is also controlled by the separatists. The local elections held in Corjova on June 3 and 17 failed because the separatist forces blocked the entrance to the polling station. The large number of Transnistrian militiamen deployed in the settlement ill-treated the villagers that were going to the polls as well as policemen and ravaged the polling stations.
