CEC makes public expenditure estimate for 2015 local elections

The Central Election Commission (CEC) will submit an expenditure estimate of 98.3 million lei for organizing and holding the local general elections of 2015 to Parliament. Such a decision was taken in a meeting on September 3, IPN reports.

The CEC’s expenditure estimate for next year was set at 28.5 million lei. Of this sum, 4.7 million lei will be used to run the Continuous Training Center managed by the Commission.

For the first time, the CEC budgeted 11.7 million lei for financing political parties. CEC president Iurie Ciocan said this is not yet a definite thing, but rather a perspective on the Commission’s work in 2015. Parliament should first adopt the bill on party financing in the final reading.

“As the bill was passed in the first reading, it will most probably be adopted in the final reading and we cannot omit this detail. We must be ready, including financially, when this bill becomes a law,” said Iurie Ciocan. If the bill is passed in the final reading, the CEC will distribute the financial resources to parties in accordance with the results achieved in elections.
