CEC forms commission for validating referendum signature pool

The Central Electoral Commission voted on Tuesday, July 17, to form a commission for receiving and validating signatures which are being collected by the group that is attempting to organize a national referendum on Moldova’s accession to the Customs Union Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan, reports Info-Prim Neo. The bill also requires the creation of eight task forces that will check the identification data of those who sign the petition. July 20 is the deadline for collecting the necessary signatures. The initiative group is led by Social-Democrat Victor Selin. In order to organize a referendum, at least 200,000 signatures are needed. If enough of them are collected, the CEC will adopt a decision that would be forwarded to the Parliament, in order to establish the date of the referendum.
