CEC forced to present copies of electoral rolls to Alliance CCAII
The Chisinau Court of Appeals obliged the Central Election Commission (CEC) to provide the copies of the registers of voters asked by the Alliance of Community Centers for Access to Information and Training of Moldova (Alliance CCAII) as part of a monitoring project, Info-Prim Neo reports.
On July 16, the Alliance asked the CEC to issue the copies of the lists of voters from the municipality of Chisinau and of the lists of eligible Chisinau voters who changed the place of residence and announced the relevant bodies of the local public authorities about the change of address.
Galina Bostan, jurist at the Alliance CCAII and director of the Center for Analysis and Prevention of Corruption, on July 20 said that the Central Election Commission refused to provide the information that they asked for. “In its response, the CEC said that the electoral rolls are not an official document and that the Alliance CCAII does not have the right to possess personal data about the voters,” Galina Bostan said.
The CEC will appeal the decision of the Court of Appeals to a higher court, the Commission’s secretary Iurie Ciocan has told Info-Prim Neo.
The Monitoring of the Electoral Registers in the Municipality of Chisinau Project carried out by the Alliance CCAII is implemented as part of the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Electrons – Coalition 2009. The Alliance monitors how the electoral rolls are drawn up and contributes to the correct compilation of the lists in the municipality of Chisinau.
