CEC discusses organization of early elections with representatives of local authorities

The mayors will draw up the electoral registers for every polling place by July 3. The lists will be checked at the voter’s domicile and sent by email to the Central Election Commission (CEC) until July 6. The relevant decision made by the CEC recently was discussed at a seminar on this year’s early elections with secretaries of the local public authorities, Info-Prim Neo reports. The CEC stressed that the compilation of the registers must start immediately as there is not much time before the early parliamentary elections. The seminar was attended by secretaries of the district and municipal councilors and district heads’ offices, representatives of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, UNDP, OSCE and the Ministry of Information Development. The seminar participants decided on the methods of cooperation between the CEC, the Ministry of Information Development, the local public authorities and other institutions aimed at making accurate electoral rolls in compliance with the legislation, the CEC says in a communiqué. The attendees also discussed the training of the staff that will work in inferior electoral bodies so as to conduct free and fair elections. The CEC and local public administration representatives expressed concern about the creation of the inferior electoral bodies when the people are on leave, as this will be a difficult process. Similar seminars will be held at local level from next week. They will involve members of the CEC and mayors.
