The Central Election Commission (CEC) denies the accusations made against it in connection with the invalidation of the Chisinau mayoral elections by the courts, noting these are unfounded and with a political undertone, IPN reports.
In a press release, the Commission notes the broadcasting of denigrating information with the use of vocabulary that goes against the ethical and moral norms and is aimed at undermining the authority and credibility of the electoral bodies and the whole electoral process.
The CEC said namely the court of law has the exclusive competence to confirm the legality of the early local mayors elections in Chisinau municipality and to validate the election of the mayor. Both the CEC and the Chisinau District Electoral Council organized the early mayoral elections in Chisinau municipality honestly, correctly and by obeying the law and the lack of complaints about the activity of the electoral authorities or court judgments ascertaining illegalities in this regard is a proof of this.
The Commission calls on all the electoral subjects, including the citizens, political parties and media outlets, to be calm and not to engage the CEC in political games. It notes it remains an independent, open and professional institution that is ready to cope with challenges and that will continue to make consolidated efforts to guarantee fair elections.
The Central Election Commission will meet on June 29, starting at 2pm, to take notice of the June 19 Chisinau City Court’s judgment to invalidate the May 20 and June 3 mayoral elections in Chisinau municipality that became irrevocable by the June 25 Supreme Court of Justice’ ruling.
