The Central Election Commission decided that the mayoral runoff vote in the municipality of Bălți will take place on December 19. After the annulment of the registration of electoral contender Marina Tauber, the runoff vote will involve independent candidate Nicolai Grigorișin and the next ranked, according to the resuts of the first round of voting, PAS candidate Boris Marcoci. Shortly after this decision was taken, the Party of Action and Solidarity on its Facebook page announced that the party withdraws its candidate, IPN reports.
Under the CEC’s decision, Bălți District Electoral Council No. 2 will approve the text of the ballot for the runoff vote by a decision. The two candidates will be put on the ballot according to the score achieved in the first round of voting in descending order. If one of the two candidates withdraws from the electoral competition at least seven days before the election day, the runoffs will involve the remaining candidate and the next candidate that polled the largest number of votes in the first round of voting.
The runoff will be held based on the same voter rolls as the first round. The money that can be transferred to the Electoral Fund of the electoral contenders involved in the runoffs will not exceed the ceiling set for the November 21 round of voting and includes the costs reported for the first round of voting.
The mayoral runoff that was to take place in Bălți on December 5 was suspended because there was no irrevocable court decision concerning the exclusion of Șor Party’s candidate for mayor Marina Tauber from the electoral competition and the runoff could not be held with one candidate only.
