CEC clears up the causes of electoral absenteeism in scrutinises of electing the general mayor of municipality Chisinau
An opinion survey to clear up the causes of electoral absenteeism in scrutinises for electing the mayor of the capital is organised at the request of the central electoral Commission (CEC).
CEC chairman Eugen Stirbu said on Tuesday, 28 February, during the meeting on the preparing activity for local general elections in 2007, that the central electoral authority is interested in clearing up the real situation, in order to propose, if necessary, to change the Electoral Code. He also said that until now it is unknown only the opinion of the politicians regarding the reasons of non-participation in elections of electors, but CEC insists on finding out the official opinion of the population. The results of this survey shall be made public at the end of March 2006.
Stirbu considers that this procedure of applying the stamp “voted” on the accompanying paper of the identity card was one of the factors to determine the weak presence at the ballot box. According to him, many citizens did not participate only “not to spot their identity card”. He also mentioned that the practice of neighbour countries attest as efficient presentation at ballot box with the lection card. In this case, the stamp “Voted” is applied this card, which the electors present at the 4-6 electoral scrutinises, Stirbu underlined.
