CEC calls on the media to correctly cover campaign prior to November 19 referendum

The Central Election Commission (CEC) calls upon the mass media to equitably and impartially cover the election campaign prior to the local referendum to dismiss Dorin Chirtoaca from the post of mayor general of Chisinau municipality that will be held on November 19, IPN reports.

The CEC said the participants in the referendum should benefit from non-discriminatory treatment and enjoy equal rights as regards the provision of airtime, without promoting their political programs and platforms.

The CEC was empowered to work out and approve the regulations concerning the covering of the election campaigns by the mass media only for the parliamentary and presidential elections and national referendums. That’s why it requested the Broadcasting Coordination Council to formulate regulations for ensuring the correct and transparent coverage of the election campaign prior to the local referendum.

It should be noted that the Broadcasting Coordination Council on October 10 endorsed the concept on the coverage of the election campaign prior to the local referendum on the removal of Dorin Chirtoaca from the mayoralty of Chisinau.
