The Central Election Commission has initiated the procedure for amending the regulations on the peculiarities of the nomination and registration of candidates for the position of President of the Republic of Moldova. Interested parties can submit proposals, suggestions, opinions until March 28, IPN reports.
Political parties registered before the date of entry into force of the document by which the date of the presidential election is set can nominate candidates for the position of President, in accordance with the statutes, as the electoral blocs can. Also, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova can field themselves.
Currently, the regulations stipulates that a citizen of the Republic of Moldova with the right to vote, who reached 40 years old before election day and who had lived or has permanently lived in the Republic of Moldova for not less than 10 years, can be elected President of the country. The candidate must know the Romanian language, have higher education, have a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent degree. They must also not be subject to restrictions regarding the exercise of electoral rights.
The nomination of candidates for the position of President of the Republic of Moldova starts 60 days before and ends 30 days before election day.
