The Central Election Commission (CEC) requested the Ministry of Justice to take action in accordance with the Law on Political Parties, which allows limiting the activities of the Chance Party, IPN reports.
The CEC also asked the Ministry to oblige the party to submit the information needed to extensively examine the financing of the electoral campaign that preceded the general local elections of November 5, 2023. The Commission initiated the examination on November 8, 2023.
‘The Commission notes that the representatives of the party did not cooperate with the electoral authority, did not respond to the Commission’s request to appear at its headquarters and did not present the required documents. Because of this, the examination group did not have direct access to all the accounting records and/or primary documents underlying the accounting records held by the electoral contestant. Respectively, the check was limited only to the examination of data from the financial reports of the electoral competitor Chance Party, the additional official information received at the request of the Commission from the State Tax Service, the General Border Police Inspectorate and the data collected by the examination group,” the CEC said in a press release.
According to the Law on Political Parties, the activities of a political party may be limited if its actions seriously affect political pluralism or fundamental democratic principles, in particular for failure to submit the financial management report or information needed to supervise and control the financing of the political party, within the time limit and format set by the Central Election Commission.
In these circumstances, the CEC requested the State Tax Service to verify the correctness of the collection of donations by the Chance Party apparently in the absence of primary documents with special regime (receipts) and the Ministry of Justice to take the necessary actions to oblige the political party to submit the necessary data and comply with the relevant legal provisions.
