CEC approves regulation on coverage of elections in media
The Central Election Commission (CEC) approved on Tuesday, June 23, the Regulation on the coverage of the campaign for the July 29 polls in media, Info-Prim Neo reports.
CEC Secretary Iurie Ciocan says the regulation doesn't differ much from its precursor ahead of the April 5 vote. A novelty is a chapter devoted to litigations between the electoral contestants, and between the electoral contestants and media outlets. However, these litigations will be settled in court.
Concerning the electoral debates, Ciocan said its up to the managers of the radio and television stations when to start them, but no later than on July 7.
“The timing of the broadcasts will be made available to the electoral contestants 48 hours before each broadcast”, explained Ciocan.
Broadcasters shall assign no less than 90 minutes a day for one or more installments of electoral debates.
The new regulation also stipulates that each print material published by the electoral contenders shall be placed in the rubric “Electorala 2009” and accompanied by the mention: “paid for from the electoral fund” .
