The Central Election Commission (CEC) and Teleradio-Moldova Company (TRM) were to become the targets of attacks planned to be staged after the November 30 elections, prosecutor Viorel Morari announced in a news conference, when presenting the results of searches carried out at the homes of members of the group “Antifa”, who were suspected of planning actions to destabilize the situation in the period before and after the elections. Arms, ammunitions and plans of access to a number of public institutions, including the CEC and TRM, were found at suspects’ homes. Five persons were arrested for questioning, IPN reports.

According to Viorel Morari, the criminal case over the creation of a criminal group was started in spring. As a result of the investigations, there were carried out searches at 15 addresses in Chisinau, Balti, Ialoveni and Soroca. The group was created on the pretext of defending the human rights. In reality, its duty was to oust the government by use of violence. The access plans found during the searches show that the public institutions involved were to be attacked.

The prosecutor also read several sentences from the tapped telephone conversations of the suspects, where a suspect says that he needs a group of active persons for staging new protests if the election outcome was not the expected one.

Deputy head of the General Police Inspectorate Gheorghe Cavcaliuc said that the members of “Antifa” included a university professor whose task was to recruit students in need to join the group. Among the suspects is a serviceman who, according to the police, has access to different information of interest, and persons with a criminal record or even persons who are under investigation. “The evidence is conclusive enough to show what consequences the actions of this extremist group could have,” he stated.

If the suspects are found guilty, they will serve 8 to 15 years in jail for creating or managing a criminal organization.
