CEC: All polling places opened as planned

All the polling places in the 457 settlements where the mayor wasn’t elected on June 14 started work at 7am so that the people can cast their ballots in the second round of the local elections. Two electoral offices experience problems with the Internet connection, but voting there continues. In the first press briefing of June 28, officials of the Central Election Commission (CEC) said 706 candidates of the 914 running in the second round are men, while 208 are women, IPN reports.

Almost 2 million ballots were printed for the second round of voting. In the municipality of Chisinau, 12 suburban settlements will choose today their mayors as well as the mayor general of Chisinau municipality.

There are over 7,000 voters in Ulmu village of Ialoveni district and in Topala village of Cimislia district, where the elections are rerun today.

The constituencies with the largest number of settlements where the mayor is to be elected by the second round are the districts of Falesti and Floresti. The districts of Ialoveni, Telenesti and Donduseni include the lowest number of mayor’s offices without a mayor after the first round of the local elections.

Almost 40,000 people or 2% of the voters cast their ballots by 8am.
