CEC accredits international observers to elections in Gagauzia

The Central Election Commission (CEC), on February 26, accredited 19 international observers to monitor the elections in the Gagauz Autonomous Territorial Unit, Info-Prim Neo reports. Eighteen of them are monitors on behalf of the OSCE Mission to Moldova and one represents the Czech Embassy in Moldova. Also on February 26, the Association for Participative Democracy “Adept” and the League for the Defence of Human Rights (LADOM) announced they will monitor the elections for the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia. The parliamentary elections in Gagauzia will be held on March 16, as 161 candidates will run. The candidates that will secure a majority number of votes (50% + 1 vote) in the first round of voting will become members of the Peoples’ Assembly. The first two candidates within the constituencies, who’ll poll a maximum number of votes but not the majority number, will compete in the second round of voting.
