CD with 3,000 folk songs launched in Chisinau

A first collection of Romanian folk songs on a CD was launched in Chisinau. The CD includes 3,000 works from 29 folk collections issued in different periods of time in Romania and Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. The project was initiated by the director general of the Editorial Group “Litera”, Anatol Vidrascu, with support from the National Commission of the Republic of Moldova for UNESCO, the UNESCO Moscow-based office and the European Institute of Culture. The collection titled “Romanian Instrumental Musical Folklore from Everywhere” was complied by composer Constantin Rusnac, secretary general of the National Commission of the Republic of Moldova for UNESCO. According to the press service of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, the CD is a first attempt to familiarize the lovers of folk music as well as the professionals, the students of artistic education establishments and researchers of people’s creation with the rich Romanian instrumental folklore from Moldova, Romania, Ukraine, Russia and other states. Constantin Rusnac says that most of the folklore collections became bibliographic rarities and it is very hard to find them. In order to facilitate the access to the works looked for, the songs on the CD have been classified according to several criteria: in alphabetical order, by kind, by collections from where they were taken, by zones from where they were collected, by the way they are performed (musical instruments). Every section has a separate file. Every song is accompanied by information about the name and age of the informant, how it is performed, the year and place where it was recorded. Initially, the CD “Romanian Instrumental Musical Folklore from Everywhere” was issued in 1,000 copies. It will be soon available at the “Litera” bookshops in Moldova and Romania.
