CCF Moldova launches marathon of wonders for 700 vulnerable children

The association Child, Community, Family (CCF Moldova) has launched the marathon of wonders for 700 vulnerable children. The event will last for 20 days (December 7-27) during which marathoners, persons who like to run or who like new challenges can form groups of three persons and run cumulatively 700 km per group. Both their efforts and the miracles can be supported by a donation on the association’s website, IPN reports.

The marathon is launched alongside Iulian Bercu, the organization’s ambassador, to encourage the people to contribute to the raising of funds in support of the 700 children who will be helped to remain alongside the dear ones and to grow at home. “We will have a unique chance to make so that 700 children on New Year’s Eve think about fairytales, not food!” stated Iulian Bercu, being quoted in a press release of the association.

The pandemic influences significantly the alarming rise in the number of children at the risk of being separated from the family. At present, there is no official data about the current situation of children in Moldova. “But we know the reality from the grassroots level as we daily work directly with parents, children and the authorities. The crisis devastated the budgets, the money being reoriented to the public health system, which is definitely a priority at present. But what shall we do with the desperate families that effectively do not have what to eat, how to warm their homes and where to lay the children to sleep or what to dress them with or what shoes to give them to wear?” said CCF Moldova.

According to statistics, before the pandemic, each tenth child in Moldova was affected by extreme poverty. “Poverty strips our future of education, reduces the opportunity of developing the own potential, inhibiting the physical and cognitive development. In the long run, the probability of unemployment, living in poverty and social inclusion grows. The poorer are the parents, the poorer will be their children. This vicious circle can be broken with the support of each of us, by taking care of the communities in which the country’s children’s grow,” runs the press release.

A number of business entities, supporters of the campaign, will offer awards to the first seven teams that will cover by 700 km.
