CCCEC to give integrity tests to its employees

The Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime (CCCEC) intends to give integrity tests to its employees. The Center’s head Viorel Chetraru said that this mechanism will start to be implemented when a legal framework is adopted, most probably this summer, Info-Prim Neo reports. Related statements were made in a roundtable meeting centering on Romania’s experience in implementing integrity tests. According to Crinel Grosu, special senior officer of the General Anticorruption Division of the Romanian Ministry of Administration and the Interior, the integrity tests motivate the civil servants to avoid becoming involved in acts of corruption. “These integrity tests are performed with a view to establishing the reaction of certain employees when they are given bribe. They are devised so as not to violate the fundamental human rights,” he said in the roundtable meeting. The head of the CCCEC General Corruption Prevention Division Vitalie Verebceanu said that these tests in Moldova will be applied to increase the people’s trust in the Center’s work and to prevent acts of corruption by encouraging the feeling of fear and responsibility for the employees. Viorel Chetraru said that the integrity tests will not serve as reason for starting legal cases, but the persons who will be caught in these traps will be dismissed. “We will take steps to extend the integrity tests to other institutions as well. We hope that this will happen in about six months of the adoption of the legal framework,” he stated. In nine cases of the 500 started over acts of corruption in Moldova in 2011-2012, the offenders got jail terms.
