CCCEC marks nine years since foundation

The Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime (CCCEC) on June 6 celebrated nine years of work. “We are sure that the emphasis put by the authorities on the efficiency of the Center in fulfilling its commitments to the development partners is very important because the results achieved in combating corruption and underground economy is one of the priorities in obtaining a liberalized visa regime and becoming integrated into Europe,” said the institution’s director Viorel Chetraru, Info-Prim Neo reports. Viorel Chetraru said it is imperative to change Moldovan people’s mentality, attract persons with integrity to state institutions, do justice regardless of the conjuncture, social position or political period. He stressed there are many factors that hinder the Center in its work. According to him, the situation would be different if the people’s confidence in the institution would be proportional to the investment of human potential. “We informed the public about cases of corruption involving government officials and representatives of the public administration, thwarted attempts to smuggle contraband of millions of lei, cases of money laundering. But the people’s perception of corruption has not changed,” said Viorel Chetraru. He also said that he is confident the CCCEC follows the right path to a future based on progress, welfare and European integration. The event was attended by Viorel Chetraru’s counterparts from Romania, Poland, and the U.S. On the occasion of the anniversary, Viorel Chetraru handed over diplomas of the Government of Moldova and the Merit Cross medal to the best employees of the Center. The Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime is a law enforcement body specialized in combating economic, financial and fiscal offenses and corruption.
