The Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime (CCCEC) confirmed the information that the leader of the faction of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) in the Chisinau Municipal Council Emil Gutu was arrested, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a communiqué issued on May 7, the Center says that it is investigating a case of corruption at the Chisinau City Hall. “On May 5, 2009, officers of the CCCEC arrested the Chisinau resident Emil Gutu aged 34 in connection with the investigation into corruption acts at the Chisinau City Hall,” the communiqué says. The PSD has not commented on the accusations. Emil Gutu is a municipal councilor and financial director of an agricultural tools and equipment company. Gutu entered the Chisinau Municipal Council as representative of the PSD, which was then headed by Eduard Musuc. Later, the party merged with the Social Democracy Party led by Dumitru Braghis, who became the leader of the new party. On April 15, 2009, Eduard Musuc together with a number of supporters left the PSD.
