CCA to decide on Thursday who wins frequency contest
The Broadcasting Coordination Council will designate on Thursday, July 5, the winners of the contest for the use of radio and TV frequencies announced on May 15, 2007.
Seven TV stations applied for those 11 TV channels proposed in the contest. The most of the channels – 9 – are solicited by TV “Dixi”. Seven of them belong at present to the same TV station. The TV station N4 submitted an application to obtain four channels proposed in the contest. The rest of the TV stations seek to obtain 1 or 2 channels. The most popular proposed TV channels are channel 9 – Cimislia, Channel 37 – Cahul and Channel 39 – Ungheni which are fought for by three TV stations. The same competitors are after the Channel 23 from Straseni, which is at present used by the TV stations “DTV” and “Euro TV Chisinau”. Two competitors want to obtain the authorisation for the Channel 51 from Causeni.
15 radio stations applied for the 17 frequencies included in the contest. The most of the frequencies are solicited by the radio stations “Europa Plus Moldova” – 7 and “Vocea Basarabiei” – 6. Five frequencies included in the contest belong to “Europa Plus Moldova”. The radio frequency 92.0 MHz from Balti is in the greatest demand, with five radio stations fighting for it. The next most popular is 92.8 MHz, sought by four competitors.
Under to the Audiovisual Code, the broadcasting licences are issued for a period of 7 years.
