The Constitutional Court (CC) examined the challenge concerning the dismissal of prosecutor general Corneliu Gurin, which was filed by unaffiliated lawmaker Sergiu Sarbu, and will pass judgment on May 20, at 15.00, IPN reports.
Corneliu Gurin was elected by 51 votes, but it was later established that several Liberal-Democratic MPs either didn’t vote or weren’t in the assembly hall when the prosecutor was voted in.
About two weeks after the April 18 vote, Parliament approved the report of a special commission that established that the prosecutor general was appointed with deviations and voted for his dismissal. If the CC declares the Parliament’s decision unconstitutional, Corneliu Gurin will be reinstated in the post.
