The Constitutional Court of Moldova (CC) approved the legislative initiative to amend the supreme law and exclude the parliamentary immunity. Thus, the bill can be introduced into the legislative procedure, IPN reports.
Under the Court’s appraisal, the legislative initiative to amend article 70 of the Constitution, signed by 39 MPs, can be submitted to Parliament for adoption and can be adopted within six months of the presentation. A CC judge stated a separate opinion, but the name of this judge is not specified.
Raisa Apolschii, Democratic MP and head of the legal commission for appointments and immunities, said the legislative initiative will be examined six months after the issuing of the appraisal, which is in October. When the law is passed, the MPs will be equal before the law, as any other citizen. The procedure for withdrawing the immunity of an MP for this to be investigated by the law enforcement bodies will no longer be necessary.
Also on April 18, the CC endorsed the Government’s initiative to add a new chapter on the people’s ombudsman to the Constitution. This initiative will also be examined and put to the vote in six months.
