Cavcalciuc classed as a suspect in “brilliant green” case

The leader of the Party “Building Europe at Home” (PACE) Gheorghe Cavcaliuc was classed as a suspect on two counts – hooliganism committed by one or two person and inciting to commit acts of violence against persons. On April 22, he presented himself at the Sângerei Prosecutor’s Office, where he was questioned, IPN reports.

The Prosecutor General’s Office said the procedural actions are taken in the context of the investigation of the incident of April 6, when a number of PACE members splashed brilliant green on the deputy head of Sângerei district, with the latter being hospitalized.

When being questioned, the suspect made statements, denying responsibility.

Currently, another four members, among whom is the head of the PACE local organization in Sângerei, are being investigated in this case. The head of the local organization continues to be under house arrest as the Bălți Appeals Court rejected the prosecutors’ request to remand him in custody. The other members are investigated outside remand, but were banned from leaving the country.

The suspects face a fine or a maximum jail term of five years.
