A Russian woman died and three other persons were seriously injured after their car was struck by a cargo train. The accident occurred on Sunday, at a level crossing with no barriers, near the village of Pervomaisk in Causeni district.

General Police Inspectorate spokesperson Mariana Betivu told IPN the cargo train was heading from Chisinau to Cainari. As a result of the collision, a 58-year-old woman from the Russian city of Saint Petersburg died immediately. Three other persons – 47, 81 and 85 years – including the driver, were rushed to the district hospital, after requiring extrication from the car.

The circumstances of the accident are being investigated.
