Catalog of average prices in construction sector launched in Moldova

The expenditure estimate for the constructions erected from public money will be formulated from now on based on a catalog of average prices. This catalog is a novelty for Moldova, IPN reports.

When presenting the catalog, Valeriu Verstiuc, director of the State Service for Examination of Projects and Constructions, said the register aims to prevent the underestimation and overestimation of the prices of building materials. “Society can use these price indicators. The price of the built roads, schools, pipes and other facilities is sometimes several times higher. This shows that the real price of the construction is not known,” said the director.

He also said that the price indicators do not mean the centralized stabilization of prices. The market remains free. The price indicators will only limit corruption in public procurement and will block the procedures that allow performing works of a poor quality.

Anatolie Izbanda, director of the Institute of Scientific Research in Constructions “INCERCOM”, said the catalog was worked out in concert with Romanian and Belarusian experts. “The price of the construction 70-80% depends on the price of the building materials. The prices of the materials vary. There are different importers and different materials. We aimed to formulate methodology to determine the average price. A catalog will appear every quarter. The price changes will be monitored so as to preserve the objectivity of the calculation methodology,” he said.

The catalog costs 60 lei and can be bought from the Institute of Scientific Research in Constructions.
