Cases of grand, systemic and petty corruption will be distributed among three institutions

The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office will investigate cases of grand corruption, including those involving state officials, Cabinet members, prosecutors, judges, etc. The National Anticorruption Center will deal with systemic corruption, while the investigation body of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will handle petty corruption. This is provided in a bill that was approved by the Cabinet on Wednesday, IPN reports.

“The goal of these changes is to improve the efficiency of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office in investigating high-level corruption. The duty of the National Anticorruption Center will be to investigate systemic corruption,” said Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov-Moraru.

She noted that the bill regulates the subjects and categories of offenses and also delimits the duties of the National Anticorruption Center and the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the investigation of cases of corruption will illegal benefit ranging from 50,000 lei to 500,000 lei.
