Case of parents who tried to sell newborn sent to court

A female citizen of Germany who this February tried to leave Moldova with a newborn will stand trial for trafficking in children. The same case involves the child’s parents. The culprits face 15 to 20 years in jail or life imprisonment, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the child’s parents who live in Balti municipality started to negotiate with the German woman at the end of 2016. They intended to sell their child who was to be born.

In complicity with the parents, the German woman obtained a certificate enabling her to take the child out of the country on the pretext of providing medical assistance to this abroad. It was yet established that the baby was healthy and the goal was to actually adopt the child illegally in the Federal Republic of Germany.

On February 15 this year, the Border Police arrested the German woman who illegally tried to take the child out of Moldova. This traveled in a car registered in Germany together with two men who had dual nationality, of Moldova and Romania. The persons weren’t related to the child.

The police determined that the child came from a socially deprived family. His mother aged 26 has three more minor children. The 28-year-old father served time in jail for robbery.
