The case of the murder of a man in front of a nightclub in Chisinau that involved two K1 athletes was remitted to court. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, athletes Aurel Ignat and Mihai Pirgaru will stand trial for hooliganism and causing of intentional grievous bodily harm that resulted in death. The third persons accused of complicity is still wanted, IPN reports.
During an altercation in the parking lot of a shopping center, the suspects, together with an accomplice, beat victim Sergiu Bejenaru and another two young men, one of whom was the victim’s brother. When being questioned at the Emergency Medicine Institute, the last two refused to file a complaint, saying they suffered the traumas when falling on stairs.
As a result of his injuries, Sergiu Bejenaru died in the hospital in a week. Later the brother’s victim submitted a complaint to the police, asking to be classed as the injured party. The same day, complaints were filed by the victims’ mother and his partner.
Mihai Pirgaru was arrested on May 25, while Aurel Ignat one day later. They continue to be held on remand and face up to 15 years in jail.
The man who was beaten in front of the nightclub on May 19 was 30 and had a child aged seven.
