The Moldovan authorities have taken measures to deal with the case of the two Moldovans who are held hostage in Afghanistan in the safest and most optimal conditions and the dissemination of information about this subject by the press is fully irresponsible, the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) stated in a press release, quoted by IPN.
According to the PGO, the case has specific particularities and requires discreet treatment and, especially, professionalism and responsibility, while the information disseminated by particular persons through the media risks endangering the lives of the persons who are held hostage and compromising the taken measures.
“It is a case that concerns the lives of compatriots and any kind of populist or political approach can cause serious damage to the operations underway,” said the PGO. It assured that the Moldovan authorities have been preoccupied with this case and put the care for persons’ lives above everything.
A helicopter owned by a Moldovan company was captured by Taliban rebels in Afghanistan following a forced landing in November 2015. The crew consisted of three Moldovan pilots, one of whom died. Videos of the two pilots who remained alive were broadcast by a Moldovan TV channel on April 11. The two call on the Moldovan authorities to help them return home.
