Case of former first assistant prosecutor general sent to court

The case started by the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office against the former first assistant prosecutor general Andrei Pantea was sent to court, IPN reports.

The Prosecutor General’s Office said the investigation was completed and constitutive elements of abuse of power were identified within it. It was established that when Andrei Pantea held the post of first assistant prosecutor general, he illegally ordered to transfer the case against criminal Grigore Caramalac to the competent authorities of Russia, were the case was ultimately dropped.

Andrei Pantea was arrested on October 11, 2016 and since then has been held on remand.

On September 21, the Prosecutor General’s Office ordered to annul the ordinance by which the case against Grigore Caramalac was transferred to the Russian authorities, the prosecution of the criminal being thus resumed.
