A new case of African swine fever was confirmed in two wild boars found dead in a forest in Valea Mare village of Ungheni district, which is situated close to the Prut River. A similar case was reported by the National Food Safety Agency last week, IPN reports.

According to the Agency, quarantine measures are being taken to liquidate the hotbed and to set the limits of protection and supervision areas. The movement of animals inside the country is being monitored.

The restrictions imposed in Tomai and Covurlui villages of Leova district were lifted after the hotbeds identified there were eradicated.

African swine fever is not dangerous to humans, but spreads swiftly among pigs. If the virus is detected, the animals are slaughtered to prevent the spread of infection.

The National Food Safety Agency also reported a case of rabies in a dog in Baxani village of Soroca district. The body of the animal was destroyed and the animals in the locality were vaccinated against rabies.
