Three of the ten pigs kept at an individual farm in Giurgiulesti village of Cahul district died from African swine fever. The dead animals were burned, while the other seven pigs were sacrificed and also burned, IPN reports.
A 60-day period quarantine was instituted in the village. Disinfection and prophylaxis measures are being carried out. The unites of transport that enter and leave the village are examined and disinfected. The movement of pigs was banned.
The last case of African swine fever was reported in Vulcanesti district two weeks ago. Two domestic pigs were found dead near a field at a distance of 800 meters from Vulcanesti town.
The African swine fever poses no threat to humans, but spreads swiftly among animals. If the virus is detected, the animals are killed and the place where these were kept, the area around and the household tools are disinfected.
