The case feasting the manager of a company and the driver who in April tried to illegally take US$240,000 and €8,000 out of the country was remitted to court. The smuggling attempt was made at the Cahul customs post, IPN reports.
The Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases said the truck was going to Turkey without merchandise and the driver didn’t declare any goods. The customs officers found the money in the cab and in the section intended for the stereo system.
At the request of prosecutors, the undeclared money and the truck that is worth over €30,000 were seized. The truck driver is now under house arrest.
Smuggling carries a penalty of four to ten years in jail. Companies face a fine of up to 60,000 lei and ban on performing particular activities.
