The Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) completed the investigation and sent to court the case started against a Moldovan citizen who contributed to the kidnapping of former Ukrainian judge Mykola Chaus in April 2021, IPN reports.
According to PCCOCS, the 30-year-old man did his military service in the national special forces. He worked in Ukraine as a guard and in February was recruited by a group of persons who later committed a number of offenses. The man was entrusted with the task of returning to Moldova and of gathering information about the domicile, lifestyle and daily itineraries of the members of the family of the ex-judge and of transmitting this to his superiors. He later rented accommodations and bought three cars that were put at the disposal of the crime authors.
The persons with whom he cooperated and whom he provided with the aforementioned goods were from outside the country. The cars were used to kidnap the former judge and his bodyguard.
The man was remanded in custody in May 2021. Recently, he concluded a guilt admission agreement with prosecutors and was placed under house arrest, under the supervision of the police.
The case was separated from the main criminal case featuring the other suspects who continue to be investigated.
Kidnaping of two and more persons in Moldova carries six to ten years in jail.
