The case of the secretary of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) was sent to court. This is accused of asking for money and property from business entities and municipal councilors for different services and faces three to seven years in jail, fine of up to 300,000 lei and ban on holding particular public posts or performing particular activities for a period of five to ten years, IPN has learned from the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The secretary is accused of asking for and receiving money in February- May 2017 for including draft decisions on the extension of the lease for different plots of land and on the modification of the borders of other plots in the agenda of the CMC meetings. He is also accused of preparing the set of documents required for the purchase-sale of plots and for the approval of the urban design plans of particular facilities.
According to anticorruption prosecutors, the CMC secretary asked for and received 5,200 lei, €700 and US$2,000 for influencing members of the Council or officials of the Chisinau City Hall.
The secretary signed a guilt admission agreement with prosecutors and the case is to be tried according to a special procedure. He is now under house arrest. The anticorruption prosecutors requested to suspend the accused from the post of secretary, but their request hasn’t been yet examined.
