Case against Briceni policeman accused of passive corruption sent to court
The case started against a police officer from Briceni who is accused of passive corruption was remitted to court, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office.
According to the prosecutors, the policeman in September stopped a car transporting goods without documents of origin at the entrance to Briceni town. After escorting the car to the Briceni Police Commissariat, the police officer asked for US$100 from the driver for releasing the car and the transported goods.
The policeman received the first tranche of US$50 the next morning, while the second tranche in two days. Afterwards, he asked for another 1 000 lei from the given person for not opening a legal case over illegal trafficking in goods against him.
The police officer was caught in the act of taking 700 lei in the police car in October.
