Cars stolen in EU sold in Moldova. Seven persons under arrest

Seven persons were arrested on suspicion that they smuggled cars into Moldova. Legal action was taken over a letter rogatory from Hungary concerning the stealing of cars from the EU to the value of over 12 million lei, IPN reports.

According to the General Police Inspectorate, 25 cars with elements of falsification of identification numbers were seized following expert examinations.

Of the seven persons, three were remanded in custody, three were placed under house arrest, while the seventh was set free. The suspects face four to ten years in jail.

The prosecutors recommend the citizens to be maximally prudent and diligent when purchasing cars.
