Carriers seek higher fares on interurban trips
The Union of Carriers and Road Workers requested the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure to approve a rise of 8 lei per 100 km in the fares on interurban trips.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the Union’s head Eugen Datsko said that if the proposal is accepted, the travelers will pay 46 lei per 100 kilometers, not 38 lei as at present. The carriers argue that the fuels got dearer and they sustain losses.
Eugen Datsko also said that the interurban route operators demand liberalizing this segment of the market so that the carriers be able to set the fares themselves as in the case of international routes.
The carriers’ request will be discussed by the Ministry next week.
In January, the fuel prices rose by about 0.50 lei. Gasoline now costs 15.4 lei/liter, while diesel fuel – 13.8 lei/liter.
