Acting Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov had a meeting with the special representative of the Russian Federation in the Transnistrian conflict settlement, Ambassador Sergey Gubarev. In the meeting, the Moldovan official underlined the necessity of initiating discussions on the aspects of the definitive resolution of the dispute, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Reintegration Office, one of the main subjects discussed was the Moldovan authorities’ recent initiative concerning the monitoring of the migration flows and of the foreigners who arrive in the country through the central, Transnistrian segment of the Moldovan-Ukrainian border. “The given mechanism will be implemented by the personnel of the Migration and Asylum Bureau, by obeying the Security Zone rules. It will not create obstacles to the free movement of the people living in the Transnistrian region,” said Eugen Carpov.

In the context of the recent negative developments in the Security Zone, the officials examined the possibility of organizing an independent mission for monitoring the situation. It would formulate recommendations for ensuring the fulfillment of the existing commitments and would exclude the unilateral actions.

Russia’s special representative in the Transnistrian settlement voiced hope that the next round of the talks in the 5+2 format this year, which will take place in Ukraine’s Odessa on May 23-24, will produce positive results in the conflict solving process.
