Carpov, Gubarev discuss latest developments in Transnistrian settlement

Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov and Russia’s special representative in the Transnistrian conflict settlement Sergey Gubarev discussed the latest developments and the prospects of the negotiation process in the context of the preparations for the first round of the official talks in the 5+2 format this year, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a communiqué from the Reintegration Office, the two officials discussed the results of the January 29 meeting of the political representatives of Chisinau and Tiraspol in the Transnistrian conflict settlement and exchanged opinions on the positions of the international players involved in the settlement process. They stressed the necessity of the mediators and observers promoting a constructive position. Eugen Carpov said the experts of the specialized working groups of Chisinau and Tiraspol are finalizing the technical mechanism concerning the free movement and the procedure for obtaining license plates for Transnistrian units of transport that will meet the international standards, in concert with the foreign partners. For his part, Sergey Gubarev voiced hope that the first round of the official talks in the 5+2 format this year, which will take place in Ukraine’s Lvov on February 18-20, will bring positive results in the settlement process and will stimulate the dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol.
